Nelsonians ask “Whats with the Orange Buoy?”

at first I thought it was a training aid for one of the increasing number of ocean swimmers we see in summer months…

but alas…

27-02-2015 buoy

…turns out as the Nelson Mail reports they are principally aimed to be used as VERY VISIBLE flotation / storage devices, which certainly generated some local resident interest…

Out in Tasman Bay tonight..

….is a rather unique vessel, one of the 2 or 3 current Mighty Servants.

One of the few ships in the world that can “sink on command.”

You give way…

…no you give way….…bit busy at the entrance to Port Nelson the other morning.

Low Tide - Check, Summer - Check…

….location Nelson - Check - ok it must be fun times!

Plus …surprise…surprise…even local Nelsonians love it too!

AND the 2015 News Flash for Nelsonians is …..get ready for this one…..on Sat 21st Feb 2015 we will have whats more than likely to be one of the biggest daytime tides of the year…around about 8 - 8.15am at 4.7m.

AND then after that…if you really want to go walking…like this…

..then that same afternoon…

….the predictions say we will get a 0.2m tide (compared to the 4.7m tide 6 hrs ago)

…so you could just about walk or paddle (Smile  ) to Haulashore Island.

At the least make sure you take the family /kids down for some fun. They will remember!

How cool is it…

…..when in the same week that your own company accepts the massive advantages offered up by the marketing advantages of a panoramic “double page spread” type of image…in fact the first time I’ve ever seen one in our local Friday released “Summit Weekly” ….commonly referred to locally as “The Red Book” that someone else…a company by the name of Microsoft offer up…FOR FREE…a program that allows everyone out there to make their own panoramic images.

13-02-2015 pano

I think the word is “timing.” But wow the ability to show “the view” in Nelson is a massive example of “show & tell.”

At 8:52am on a Saturday morn…

…and I’m looking twice…but yup…only ladies it seems have just finished their “on beach” exercise / Yoga /Tai Chi class…and you’d have to travel a long way to find a better environment for them to conduct said classes in/on.

Sometimes after work all you want to do is… home…but then again…pulling across to the side of the road in summer time…

on a Wednesday night you can experience this…

….and I for a fact find it very relaxing to sit still and watch the race jockeying, setup and start.

Just another pleasure to make your trip home from work last another 2 - 2 1/2 minute's longer?

Even when its slightly overcast…

here in Nelson…we can still make a scene enough to get a Nelsonian painter to pick up their brush….?

In real world terms…

this here….well this is what would be referred to as a “Demo Derby dream car”, but something tells me….the local owner ain’t gonna give it up any time soon?

In case you didn’t know…

..Nelson is as close as you can get to a geographical centre in this little place called New Zealand…10-02-2015 4-33-22 p.m.

10-02-2015 7-07-05 p.m.

…that’s certainly something that was recognised …

10-02-2015 7-12-42 p.m.

by Honda Motor co many years ago.

10-02-2015 7-15-46 p.m.

And that is why we are the central start point for Honda motor cars into New Zealand

10-02-2015 4-33-50 p.m.

In fact twice in the last few short weeks our little port has had two car carrier monster ships in port at the same time.

Just breath-taking tonight after that rain … looking…

….out over Tasman Bay this evening. In fact its the first time in over 17 years that I have smelt that same smell we used to get when living in Cairns FNQ……when the rain arrives quickly…whether its true that it is negative ions or what ever….you can definitely smell it…and its actually a “special moment” because in NZ I’d suggest that event isn’t usual.

Just beautiful lighting…

...something that was actually replicated about 10 minutes later in Nelson when that rare “refraction effect” took place.

9-02-2015 8-07-31 p.m.

When I was a tad younger the kids used to “hate this light” …because they knew that once it happened, maybe once every 2 or 3 years in Sydney / Cairns …..  Dad wanted us outside “for photos”….but hey I got some of the best “golden hour “ shots I’d ever got of the kids…so try it next time and see if you don’t agree.

Well…you tell me…

….wouldn’t you at the least want to have a go last weekend?

According to local newspaper reports..

…the organisers seemed to ….

…“have not been prepared for the volume of participants”
