This here is The Sands Apartments

down just about as close as you can get……

to our world famous in Nelson “Tahunanui Beach.”

One of the most outstanding

things about living here in Nelson is that it does not

C360_2011-05-31 11-12-01

take a lot …. to really to find a situation where you can live & have the

most absolutely fabulous vistas to look out from…breakfast, lunch and dinner.

See I’ll just jump

over here and…..hmmm….now that I am here…….

……lets just take a moment to enjoy this view….can I?

See in Nelson you’re boat

it does not always have to float…and as a matter of fact…

…….there are many times in the day that it doesn’t.

Rocks Rd, Nelson

Shown yesterday at low tide

Rocks Rd

you can spot the assembly of Port Nelsons new No 3 container crane going on in the background.

Nelson Waterfront Apartments

Thought just for once you might want to see a couple of examples of what sort of luxury your hard….

….earned money could buy you on Nelsons “Wakefield Quay.”

Or to put it another way……more or less our “Oriental Parade.”

Obviously there are others….but if you have a mil just sitting there burning a hole in your pocket please give me a call. In case you were not aware, I deal in Nelson Real Estate every single day.

No. 3 soon to be alive

Last year Port Nelson indicated they were concerned about current ship – to - dockside capacity, in the unlikely event of a prolonged maintenance issue effecting one of the two current dockside cranes.

……….and just as importantly, concerns about the maintenance costs on those 2 existing Port Nelson Liehberr container cranes, and decided that a board decision needed to be made to alleviate that.

That board decision amounted to spending the not too small amount of $6m on an extra container capable dockside crane, an upgraded model, the Liebherr LHM 550 mobile harbour crane was selected, with a maximum lifting capacity of 104 tonnes.

Although originally proposed to arrive in April, it does indeed look like from these photos taken today, she is now well & truly here ….and is currently occupied, with the able assistance of the other two older Liehberr cranes, in getting herself together, for active duty.

At the time, back in late 2010, the Nelson Mail reported that;

Port Nelson bought its first LHM 400 unit in 1996, followed by a second in 2000.

….and quoted Pacifica's GM of Shipping Steve Chapman as saying;

"Providing the Nelson region with more capacity and offering more shipping options can only be good for manufacturers and producers seeking timely and cost-effective transport options, not just for local markets but global markets as well,"

Got to be great news for all local Nelson & Golden Bay exporters.

Although unfortunately the Port hasn’t yet got their webmaster to update their site here…..http://cargo.portnelson.co.nz/cargo_services/plant_equipment.asp

And while I’m at it, looks like other things are on the up too, with the Port adding to its tally of near on 30 forklifts……by taking delivery of an extra two monster 40 Ton capacity Hyster forklifts this month as well.

How much sunshine does Nelson get

have been asked this question the other day - strange really because there are just so many different ways of confirming it by the net, but probably……..

NZ Sunshine

this chart from NIWA (& sourced from their years of data collection) is one of the better ones, and sums it up best. The sunniest zones are those dark red ones.

You can investigate for yourself over at NIWAs climate page …. here.

And the Good News is

that like in 2010, the Summit office in Stoke was the team who collected the most on last Fridays annual rescue helicopter appeal day.

C360_2011-05-23 14-03-58

Thank you to all Nelsonians for being so generous, because I am only too aware that there have been many many appeals of late for various other needy causes too.

Family Connections discovered…

C360_2011-05-08 11-01-47
After a trip to town last Sunday morning we came home around the Port and as we approached Wakefield Quay my wife stated..…I believe there is a family connection commemorated here….
C360_2011-05-12 17-53-33_org
When my wife shows me this…………….
………her family members named on the plaque wall.

All you need is $55 million and…

23-05-2011 9-00-44 p.m.

you could wrap up the purchase of this “little” home

23-05-2011 9-01-54 p.m.

in New Zealands top end, Northland.

OK I’ll be the first to admit that I have diverted from the core of this website, but as a Real Estate agent here in New Zealand….

23-05-2011 9-00-03 p.m.

……even me…

23-05-2011 9-02-22 p.m.

……sometimes there are some things….'

23-05-2011 9-01-20 p.m.

…and more importantly some “prices” that just take your breath away!

The Russians are coming

…oppphs…..looks like they’re already here.

C360_2011-05-06 13-49-14

Actually they have been in NZ for decades now fishing under the allocated quota system. These guys above are on their regular scheduled 1 month layup “in port” (Port Nelson that is) after working…”I don’t know how many months at sea”

See this is just another

reason why Stoke, where I grew up, is so popular.

Dissecting the suburb ……is the old railway line, colloquialism wise….today its called the “Railway Reserve” and….

……let me tell you from a locals perspective it does indeed have an affect on local property values.

I posed this question a while back

and am yet to get the correct answer.

Q300s by xxxx

Perhaps you have better eyesight than previous viewers.

In 2010, Stoke office was

the top office in terms of donations on a “per capita basis”….

C360_2011-05-07 09-58-49

….for the Summit Rescue Helicopter on its annual collection day………….

C360_2011-05-07 09-59-30

and that’s exactly what is going to happen in 2011…..

C360_2011-05-07 09-59-04

……just the same in 2011…..watch out the other 5 Summit branches this year!

Meanwhile…down at NSN airport

and the “real” NSN, just adjacent our new multi-million dollar Air New Zealand hangar……

….is this important monument…perhaps not always noticed by folk on their “time constricted” trip to the terminal….but very importantly this stone and its inlay relate….

to…..Group Captain Len Trent VC DFC (yup you read that right….“VC”)

Aoteroa – how to get there…

Last post I showed you the Aoteroa mural….a mural very dear to all Nelsonians hearts…….

C360_2011-05-15 09-07-30

but something new (“relatively speaking”) on the shores…..

C360_2011-05-15 09-07-41

around Wakefield Quay in Nelson is “The Friendship Walk.” A way to walk there.

C360_2011-05-15 09-00-37

Ok it was constructed a few years back, and its logical extension is currently under construction adjacent to New Zealands oldest Yacht Club……..the Nelson Yacht Club.

Nelson does have a bit of maritime heritage, just in case you are interested?

Aoteroa – it means….

NEW ZEALAND… or more precisely….

C360_2011-05-15 09-00-50

….and, rather co-incidentally, surprisingly just like my previous post…..

C360_2011-05-15 08-59-22

the “land of the long white cloud.”

C360_2011-05-15 08-59-04

Well done Chris Finlayson, not only for bringing us one of Nelsons iconic places, but just as importantly coming back to refresh (“re-create) it in 2009….when it needed it……and then going above and beyond involving so many local Nelsonians!

Just the most fabulous

clouds this morning…..well Monday am that was.

Regular readers here will already be well…..

………..aware of my fascination with the sky.

Doesn’t look healthy…

in this photo taken Monday 16th May, now….does it?

The stand out star of this earlier post here, rears it head again after its owners re-manufactured it back to its original OEM condition…..

…..only to suffer a similar fate a week or so later.

This ‘brella seems to have a life of its own.

Nelson…as I know it….

and just so good to be back to our typical weather today.

C360_2011-05-16 12-32-26

Seeing these three large bulkers out in Tasman Bay,

C360_2011-05-16 12-31-43

almost felt they were feeling the the same way

Saturday, May 14, 2011

Does this look chopped and lowered…

to you? Took through windscreen so that’s why its a bit grainy.

Don’t know about the number plate though.

After spotting this tractor unit later in the week, I’d have to say affirmative for the lowered bit.

Thursday, May 12, 2011

Oh Yes it is!

Just in case you were wondering why in the Top of the South we

love our Rugby so much, then perhaps this perfectly illustrates why.

And our newly updated Trafalgar Park just can’t wait for Team Italy.

Really just so I can do this again, and this time hold it!
